This past week my husband, Carl, and I had to make the toughest decision we have ever had to make. Our girl Lady was suffering from thyroid issues, hip dysplasia, and a nerve disorder in her back, making it very difficult to get around to do daily dog activities. We did not want her to suffer any longer, so we tried to make her last day with us the best one she could ever imagine.
After waking up from a good night
with an El Pollo Loco chicken dinner,
we took the day off work to enjoy some of Lady's favorite things and some special treats. Since long walks were out of the question, we took Fluffy out for second best thing - a bike ride!
We headed west to visit a Route 66 landmark -
Donut Man! Lady enjoyed an old fashioned
doughnut, and it was a winner!

Then, we took our full bellies off to Armstrong Nursery to pick up some ladybugs to release in honor of our Ladybug later. Taking advantage of the blooms at the nursery, we snapped an amazing photo in front of some beautiful Gold Forsynthia in bloom.

Once back home, we all relaxed for a while.
outside in the backyard, where she has a view of the street.

For lunch, Lady got to eat more than dropped french fries at In-N-Out. She got her very own Double-Double with spread only. Once she got some help lifting up the beef patties, they disappeared within seconds. It was a delight to see her eat her first
In-N-Out burger, an experience we all wish we could relive over and over again.
The rest of the day is painful to talk about, but it was comforting that she seemed to be at peace before the procedure, and that she looked to be in a deep sleep once it was over. She is now in a better place that she can run around like she was young again.
In her honor, we released ladybugs in our garden,
and planted our own Gold Forsynthia. Magical Gold Forsynthias only bloom in early spring, and are a green foliage plant most of the year. Once spring comes around again, we will all be reminded of Lady's calm nature and soft fur that we miss so much.
Lady, we love you, and you will be missed. This decision was the hardest to make, and I will always wonder is it was the right time for you, but I am very thankful that you were still well enough to enjoy your last day. This day we shared with you was cathartic, and we wouldn't trade it for the world. May you now be able to chase as many squirrels as your heart desires!
